That Summer Feeling*: Thirty Years of YoYo a Go Go
Friday, April 18, 4-6 pm
Recital Hall, COM 107
"Long ago, punk rock stopped being simply a noun that was young, loud, and proud. Now it's also a descriptive term that tries to explain the difference between the buy in/sell out culture that wakes us up every morning for work, and the culture so many of us make every day with our own hands." -Pat Maley
Join original Yoyo a Go Go organizers Pat Maley, Michelle Noel, Kento Oiwa, Ed Varga, and Pat Castaldo for a slideshow and panel discussion of Olympia's Yoyo a Go Go Festivals. This event is hosted by The Olympia Music History Project and the Evergreen State College Daniel J. Evans Library.
The First of four YoYo a Go Go festivals was held July 12-17, 1994. The festival was scheduled to coincide with Lakefair and end with the fireworks display on Capitol Lake. Over fifty bands performed at the Capitol Theater and adjacent downtown locations, including Unwound, Mukilteo Fairies, the Rickets, Girl Trouble, KARP, Kicking Giant, Lync, Excuse 17, Lois, Some Velvet Sidewalk, Team Dresch, Mecca Normal, Fitz of Depression, and Heavens to Betsy.
