Bookends: A Library Newsletter | 1/17/2025

New year, new printers, new faces

2025 is off to … a start! What more can we say? And so, so are we! Yesterday brought three new printers to the library, and while they are mostly working, there are a few kinks that we are still working out, and we appreciate your patience while we do so! For those who used and loved our previous main floor printers, Pierre and Gilles, we are working to see if we can find them a new home. If not, we may hold some kind of memorial in their honor. Each of them, if you can believe it, printed over 1 million pages in their service here at the Evergreen Library.

In addition to new printers, we are also pleased to welcome some new staff (and some existing staff in new roles) to the library!

Grant Mandarino is our new Archivist and is just now wrapping up his second week here at Evergreen. In addition his background in archives, Grant holds additional expertise and interest around art history and comparative literature. Archives hours have been updated on our hours page, including new drop-in hours! If you have an archives-related research question, or if you’d like to schedule an appointment, please email us at archives@evergreen.edu.

We are also pleased to announce that Ren Thomas has moved from the circulation desk to join us as an Adjunct Faculty Librarian on our Research Services Team. Ren’s expertise and interests include: Humanities, Literature, Graphic Novels and Comics, Queer Studies, Library User Experience, and Critical Librarianship. If you’d like to schedule a workshop or research consultation with Ren, you can find the appropriate contact info via our Contact Us page.

We’re also happy to (re-)welcome Makenna Ramey, a proud Greener Grad and formerly a library student worker, who will support Circulation with expanded duties during Ren's faculty appointment.

As always, the library remains here to help in all your academic endeavors, and our open hours for winter quarter are:

  • Sunday: 11 am - 7 pm
  • Monday - Thursday: 8 am - 9 pm
  • Friday: 8 am - 5:30 pm
  • Saturday: Closed

We also recommend you take advantage of our amazing tutors and services in the Writing Center and QuaSR. Both centers offer the same hours.

Rare Books Display: The Notebook

To honor Faculty Librarian Stokley Towles upon his retirement, the Rare Books Room staff and Stokley have co-curated an exhibition of materials highlighting ways in which we take note... and notice. Join us in exploring these materials by visiting the Rare Books Room during open hours. Want to see material up close? Ask a Rare Books Room staff member to open the display cases for you.
