Welcome to Fall in the Library!

Welcome to a beautiful (so far) fall quarter at Evergreen. Whether you are a new or returning student, we hope you’ll spend some time this quarter exploring library spaces, using library resources, and availing yourself to our friendly, helpful staff who are working hard to make sure you have the tools and services that you need to succeed as an Evergreen student!

You’ll get these emails from us, periodically, reminding you that we’re here and letting you know about resources, services, exhibits, and events that you won’t want to miss.

Spotlighting Walter Hamady in the Rare Books Room

The James F. Holly Rare Books Room has re-opened, and we're spotlighting materials from Walter Hamady and the Perishable Press. Come check it out during our open hours.

Who is Walter Hamady?

Walter Hamady is an influential letterpress printer, book artist, papermaker, and collage artist. He launched the Perishable Press in 1964 and began to publish works that are expertly printed, whimsical, nonsensical, and sometimes tongue-in-cheek. Hamady was good friends with James Holly, the founding dean of The Evergreen State College Library and namesake of our Rare Books Room.

Read more about this display on the library blog.

Writers’ Open Mic Night

Come one, come all to our quarterly Writers' Open Mic Night hosted by The Evergreen Library and Writing Center.

This in-person event will be an entirely open mic with no scheduled performers. Show up early to sign in and perform your poetry, music, storytelling, comedy, performance art, or anything you have written. Need special technology or accessibility accommodations for this event? Reach out to libraryhelp@evergreen.edu in advance to make sure we have everything ready for your performance. We will do our best to meet every need.

Save the date: Thursday, December 7, from 5 – 7 pm in the Library Underground.

Research Assistance (and more!)

Ask a librarian, we’re here to help! Library staff can assist students, faculty, staff, and community members at any stage of the research process:

  • Develop research topics and refine search strategies
  • Find information in a variety of subject areas and formats
  • Evaluate information for relevance, credibility, and impact
  • Learn to manage and organize citations

Visit the Library Archives

Visit the past to inform the present. Read, hear and view the historical documentation of our unique college. Come by during drop-in hours or make an appointment to view our collections.

New in the Library!

The Rare Books Room has been completely renovated. Come in and see our new space!

New equipment to check out at the circulation desk! Along with Chromebooks, we now also have webcams, portable DVD drives, graphing calculators, and noise-cancelling headphones.

Our three media rooms have all been refreshed with new technology, including new 4k televisions, soundbars, and DVD/Bluray/4k players.

Not new, but still cool!

We make an effort to purchase all required course materials for all courses. Some of these are in print, some in electronic formats. We can also (often) find print copies from other libraries that check out for the whole quarter; just come in and ask.

Our collection of tabletop games, including board games, story games, and RPGs continues to grow with nearly 600 titles available to check out. Games check out for a week but can be renewed as many times as you like.

Something you think we should have that isn’t already in our collection? Use our Purchase Request Form to let us know and, most of the time, we’ll buy it!
